Spot Lights At TRACE – Summer Spades 2016

Summer Spades, organized by IVolunteer International in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Colombo West, Rotaract Club of Wattala,Rotaract Club of Colombo North (RCCN) and the Rotaract Club of NSBM was a night of music. This breathtaking mixture of genres aired at Trace Expert City and thrilled the ears and minds of our local youth, primarily. This event was a direct fund-raiser for the community service project “Ranuga IVolunteer Foundation.” This Trust Foundation will sustainably support the education of underprivileged children in rural Sri Lanka by taking the burden of finances off their shoulders. This foundation will later on expand and increase the scope of support provided to local, underprivileged communities.

Summer Spades 2016 aired at the TRACE Expert City in Maradana on Saturday, June 11, 2016. While the moving heads and spot lights elevated the taste of the usual ambience of the brick walls in this innovative city, the fairy lights added a very chilled out experience to it. Under the fairy lights, met the Book Swap Colombo community for their usual book-swapping and great fellowship. PoppedUp by RevPort was busy snapping pictures away and handing them out to the first 100 participants. While some of the attendees enjoyed the mouth-watering Keells Super and Elephant House food and beverages, most of them were busy grabbing tickets at the tickets counter. The vibe was naturally good, or perfect we would say, to get the bands up and running.

The event aired at like 6:40PM – a bit late than expected. But when the bands started jamming, the delay was worth it. KK and Nikhil was followed by Magicians Toolbox and it went on to Cosmogyral, Jays Legends, The Bakery, Chimp Trip and Z Crew. The carefully rendered animation of the SS dummies playing at the background, the mind-blowing lighting system and the ground breaking sounds were some of the things which were too good to miss!

The atmosphere in the venue was superb! The experience was something that everyone looked forward to. Apart from the performances on stage, our photography partners made sure to cover every aspect of the event. Revolution Portfolio, Flexus Labs, Vevra, Camera Folk Photography, WhyNot Studios, Abhimanyu Photography and District 3220 Official Media covered the entire event. While Radhini Mendis and Gihan Samarawickrama steered the event as compeers, they joined history of IVolunteer International as the first ever task-based volunteers.

Summer Spades wouldn’t have been a success without the support of each and every participant, sponsor, partner and performer. The event was powered by PLOT ideas while TNL Radio Network joined in as Official Radio Partners, Anim8.LK as tickets partners and RevPort Media Network as online media partners. Individual and corporate donations made the event a massive success.

Summer Spades is the first finance project organized by IVolunteer International and it will also join history of the organization to host the first ever project-based volunteers. The event wouldn’t have been a success without the dedication, passion and perseverance of the volunteers that were in the committee. We are sad to see them finish their contract with us and leave, but with more projects to come we hope to see them in the future, again!
