[Savannah, Georgia | April 1, 2019 -] Two years after his TEDx talk in Savannah, Nipuna Ambanpola is now the Co-Founder and Executive Director of IVolunteer International, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization registered in Savannah, Georgia with operations worldwide.
IVolunteer International’s mission is to connect volunteers to volunteer projects around the world. Since its establishment in late 2017, IVolunteer has connected over 3,000 volunteers to over 100 projects worldwide. “There is a volunteer inside every one of us. We need to spark the thread that binds and bring it out of ourselves.” With 3,000 volunteers connected in Savannah and around the world, IVolunteer International is taking a step towards their next big investment: a geo-connecting mobile application available worldwide on iOS and Android platforms.
The mobile application, hefty with features and designs that will accelerate volunteer mobility and connectivity around the world, is scheduled to be launched in early 2020. IVolunteer International is currently working on the development of the mobile application for both iOS and Android.
“The app will be a game-changer. When disaster strikes around the world, the app will connect volunteers to support disaster relief efforts. When organizations need volunteers for year-round events, it will connect local people to local projects. Organizations and people will always have free access to the basic features of the mobile app. We believe in creating a volunteer inside the 7-billion people in the world,” Ambanpola explains their plans for the app.
“Volunteerism is the vehicle of hope I use to connect myself to you,” reiterated Nipuna Ambanpola at TEDx Savannah in 2017. Nipuna, soon to be a graduate of Georgia Southern, is spreading the message of how volunteerism can unite communities worldwide through understanding and civic engagement. Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Nipuna comes from a strong background of volunteerism and service. For his service to the community, Nipuna was presented with the Paul Harris Fellow award by Rotary Clubs in District 6920 and later the Will Watt Fellow award by the Rotary Club of Savannah South. He was also recognized by Georgia Southern in 2017 with the International Student Leadership Service Award.
