A couple of weeks ago (May 2017) Sri Lanka witnessed some of the worst floods in its history. As of May 30th, at least 126 people were killed and nearly 500,000 were displaced in following flooding and mudslides triggered by monsoon rains, according to BBC.  The flooding is believed to be the worst since May 2003 when a similarly powerful southwest monsoon destroyed 10,000 homes and killed 250 people. While the military has been deployed to support the communities affected, citizens in Sri Lanka have taken up the disaster relief into their own generous hands to support their neighbors.

IVolunteer International is happy to announce that we have partnered with the Disaster Relief Project “United as One – එකාවන්ව එකමුතුව” which was initiated as a collaborative effort of renowned Online Media Companies NowYouSeeMe, Flexus Labs and Xtream Youth. All the volunteers who are involved in this are working day and night reaching out to as many families as possible with essentials like food, sanitary items etc. They are also focused on post-disaster sustainable solutions to those who lost their loved ones and properties, in order to help them with the needed mental and physical strength.
