Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI) in Savannah, GA, US, helps people to age successfully through a variety of programs including Meals on Wheels, which provides hot meals and personal well-being checks for homebound seniors. Every day we deliver about 1,800 meals in the greater Savannah, GA region. We touch the lives of 10,000 older adults and their family members.
Description of the Event
On Saturday, March 24, Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI) will host our 8th Annual Miles for Meals to raise money for Meals on Wheels. This is a 5K run/walk where everyone is invited, including the family dog (on a leash). We encourage people to dress in food costumes, and we will even have the best food costume contest and best-dressed dog costume. It’s a fun time to raise money for a serious cause – senior hunger and isolation.
The event is being planned by a committee and is carried out by teamwork between our staff and volunteers, just like Meals on Wheels.
This event raises in excess of $8,000 and all of the net proceeds are used to provide meals for seniors in our community. At a cost of $6 a meal, this race has the potential to provide at least more than 1,300 meals delivered by a caring volunteer or team member. This will help address the battles of our senior needs. One in six seniors battle hunger and isolation. Meals on Wheels is a solution to this issue.
Location: Senior Citizens, Inc., 3025 Bull Street, Savannah, GA, 31405
Date: March 24, 2018
