In Sri Lanka, students get a lot of theoretical and technical knowledge and not enough practice in what remains a mystery; soft skills. The last thing we need is more memorization. Instead, we need to practice confidence and interpersonal skills with our peers. We need to practice these skills before we go out into university or the workforce; before we get told that we are not “practical” enough.
Shakthi is an education venture started by two students at Harvard University – Sanuja and Lekshmi, who grew up in Sri Lanka and Kerala, India – that aims to give students aged 13 to 19 ample space and training in soft skills through workshops in schools.
We aim to establish long-term workshops instead of one-time workshops so that students can grow from session to session.
Application Period
January 9, 2018 – May 20, 2018.
Representative Responsibilities
Shakthi is a very early stage venture. We are looking for a socially-conscious, responsible, trustworthy young Sri Lankan who can communicate with different types of people with respect and enthusiasm. You will also be able to provide immense and valuable input to this venture’s early development. This will be a part-time commitment (you can do this while studying or working), but you would have to be dedicated. Responsibilities will involve:
- Being in contact with Sanuja and Lekshmi regularly
- Communicating with school officials (principals, teachers), students, and potential workshop facilitators
- Motivating students to provide feedback on pilot workshops/projects
Benefits to Representative
This opportunity is based on communication and information acquisition skills. We cannot promise financial compensation (yet), but we can promise recommendations. Please get in touch if you have more questions!
