Early Childhood Development Project
Since its inception, HoSH has mainly been working with out of school children and their families from Senge and the surrounding community. These children are out of school due to different vulnerabilities they found themselves into. Some of them are total orphans having lost both parents and are staying with well-wishers or other relatives who are unable to pay for their education. Others are living with a single parent or old grandmother or a chronically ill caretaker. We also have children who never went to school at all while others dropped out at different levels. Each child in the program has a story behind their vulnerability. The situation has been worsened by the absence of a Universal Primary School in the vicinity, which make children start school late and they end up losing morale and eventually drop out.
We have been engaging the parents, guardians, community leaders, government representatives and the general community about the best intervention for this community. After all this, we have zeroed down to setting up a model Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD) Center targeting children from conception to 8 years. Currently, we have Younger children (Nursery to primary two) attending school at the Hope Springs Haven Center while older children are re-instated back to school in the neighborhood after going through a catch-up program at the center. They are monitored by the staff on a regular basis to ensure their stay in school. The care takers and older siblings are trained in different Income-Generating Skills to empower them for self-sustainability.

In addition, we have a farm at the center where they will be given the opportunity to tour and participate in activities at the farm like cutting grass and feeding animals. They will also have an opportunity to enjoy the weather in Uganda as well as visit scenic places in Uganda at reasonable prices.
