About the Organization
Walk MS (Multiple Sclerosis) brings together passionate people who connect in communities nationwide and raise funds to change the world for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis. With nearly 300,000 people fundraising and volunteering each year, Walk MS has generated more than $1 billion toward our mission. Each step you take is backed by a supportive community. Together, we are stronger. Together, we will end MS forever. The Georgia Chapter works to improve the quality of life for people affected by MS in Georgia and raise funds for critical MS research. The Georgia Chapter provides services such as connecting people with MS to medical providers who can treat MS. They help align people with service providers such as physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist as well as a host of other professional providers.
Volunteer Opportunity
Walk MS Savannah 2019 is one of eleven Walk’s in Georgia. The first Walk was in the late 1980s. The MS Walk’s are held all over the United States every year. The goal of the Walk is to put people together who have MS, are related to someone with MS or have a friend with MS in an effort to raise funds to support research of MS as well as provide information about the disease and treatment’s that may be beneficial to the patient. The social impact is amazing. A group of people who gather together in an effort to raise money for the National MS Society-Ga Chapter. Everyone works in unison to put together a quality event. Walk 2019 had a host of people from different walks of life helping, walking and cheering the walker’s on. People with MS, family members, students, retirees all gathered together to work with one another in an attempt to raise funds that will help to eradicate MS.
People work together to put up the site; tents, tables, signs, mark the route, hand out fruit & water.
Location: The MS Walk-Savannah 2019 will be held in Daffin Park on Victory Drive in Savannah, Georgia. Volunteers are asked to be at the park at 7:30 am. Walkers can register on line or at the Walk starting at 8 am on May 4, 2019.
Volunteer Responsibility
Volunteers will help;
- Setting up and taking down canopies.
- Set up and take down tables and chairs.
- Help to set up the signage for the event.
- Set up hydration stations (there are between 2-3), involves setting up tables and putting out water, soda and snacks.
- Some volunteers will work at the registration table; checking walkers in.
- Other people will help hand out t-shirts to those walker’s who have raised over $ 100, people in attendance who have MS as well as handing out the shirts to other volunteer’s.
- We will also need help with setting up the snack/fruit/water/soda, as well as distributing said items to people at the Walk.
Benefits to Volunteers
Volunteers will receive a Multiple Sclerosis volunteer t-shirt (orange is the MS color, the shirt will most likely be orange). There are usually a lot of people from all different backgrounds. It is our hope that each and every volunteer leaves this event with the realization that they have helped to make a change in the lives of people with MS. They are stalwart of the Walk. Without volunteer’s there would be no walk. We look forward to meeting your volunteer’s this year!
