The Sooriya Village is a facility fabricated to educate and cluster the artists by bringing them together from all corners of the nation. Birthed from a simple children’s bookshop decades ago, which later altered into a record label that produced some of the greatest tunes of Sri Lankan music, The Sooriya Village once again aims to transform the industry with its new and exciting facility.
About the Volunteer Project
Sooriya Records is excited to announce its first-ever re-release of a Long Play vinyl record in 2019! Sooriya Records, a pioneer in Sri Lankan music production, released its first vinyl LP in 1971. “The Sooriya Show Volume I”, was the first Sri Lankan LP released on a local music label. 50 years since its debut, Sooriya is re-producing this vinyl LP, as a limited-edition version.
Evergreen hits such as ‘Dilhani’, ‘Kimada Naave’, ‘Mage Pelpathe’, ‘Pem Gee Naadaya’, ‘Nuwara Menikela’ & ‘City of Colombo’ are amongst the many hits listed in the LP, featuring the popular artists and groups such as Clarence Wijewardena, Annesley Malawana, Indrani Perera, M.S. Fernando, Paul Fernando, La Bambas and The Golden Chimes. The album contains original tracks recorded by the renowned Recording Engineer Mervyn Rodrigo, restored from master spool tapes preserved since 1969. Tape restoration handled by George Manatunga who assisted Mervyn Rodrigo at the same recordings back then.
