The Garden of Hope Foundation (GOHF) is a faith-based community organization that is passionate about restoring hope through providing mentorship, leadership, and youth empowerment. The organization is based in Nairobi, Kenya and is steadily focused on building sustainable communities through developing leaders among the youth in marginalized environments. Their vision aspires to become the premier youth leadership development organization in marginalized communities.
The foundation is working with seven schools in Samburu, four in West Pokot, two in Kajiado, five in Kibera and five in Kitui. They have so far provided over 7,000 sanitary pads to school-going girls in those areas and over 15,000 exercise books to children’s homes, schools and rescue centers. They also have mentorship programs in these schools.
Since the inception, GOHF has worked with 3,500 youth from 5 counties in Kenya namely Samburu, Jajiado, Nairobi, Kitui, and West Pokot. The impact they have made so far is tremendous.
- They have trained 250 student leaders on leadership and behavior change through their student leaders program.
- 500 girls in Kibera receive a monthly supply of sanitary towels and undergarments alongside mentorship and counseling.
- 100 high school graduates have been trained on leadership and entrepreneurship development through the LDE-P program.
- 1,500 girls and boys receive quarterly menstrual products in Kitui, Samburu, and Pokot through the partnership with other organizations.
LED-P Program
The organization runs a 22-week Leadership Development and Entrepreneurship program which targets high school graduates from Kibera slums who are not able to join university or colleges due to low grades or lack of finances. Students who complete this Students who complete this 22-week program will be better prepared for further education, interview processes, job searching, business management, proposal writing, research, community service and have a better understanding of who they are and what goals they have. The first cohort graduated in April of 2016 and we hope to take in another lot in 2017.

Garden of hope also runs a school-based mentorship program that gives the volunteer an opportunity to be creative and apply while working with the community. Anyone willing is welcome to volunteer for any period of time they are comfortable with.
This project will be launched on February 6, 2017, and will continue till April 28, 2017.

Following are the responsibilities of the volunteers.
- Research and development.
- Attend sessions and deliver the researched topics.
- Monitoring and evaluation of the project.
- Data entry.
- Mentorship and counseling.
- Attend to any other duty they may be assigned that is project related.
As a volunteer, you will be able to get an insight about the GOHF projects and how they impact the community. Volunteering with this organization will also help you contribute to a cause close to your heart while witnessing the massive contribution you do to elevate the quality of human life in people under consideration.
